On this tour, you will visit the Schüttesägemuseum, located in the Schleifegrün area. Here you can immerse yourself in the history of timber harvesting and processing in the Black Forest, where you will learn about the ancient technique of transporting timber down the rivers using log rafts, known as “Floß”.
In addition, we will explore the Gerberviertel tannery quarter, the oldest part of Schiltach that has been preserved in its original state. Discover the historic Äussere Mühle, a mill built in 1557 that is one of the oldest in the region. During our walk, we will also cross the Stadtbrücke (city bridge), a key point in the historic center.
One of the reasons that make Schiltach especially interesting is Hansgrohe, one of the reasons why the town is among the 10 richest in Baden-Württemberg. Our tour includes a visit through the old town, where we will go through the city’s subway, emerging in the vicinity of the town hall and enjoying its charming cobblestone streets.
You cannot leave Schiltach without strolling through its Market Square, surrounded by half-timbered houses, a symbol of the traditional character of the Black Forest. To reach Schiltach by car, take the A81 freeway from Stuttgart or Karlsruhe and exit at Rottweil. Follow the signs to Schramberg and then to Schiltach. From Freiburg or Offenburg, take the A5, exit at Offenburg, follow the B33 to Hausach and continue on the B294 to Schiltach. There are parking options near the historic center, 2 hours with parking disc and long-stay parking for motorhomes at P1 Lehwiese ObereBahnhofstraße P2.
